This Week in SEC History

April 26, 1973 - the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) opened. Dealing in equities options had previously been rare, so the SEC faced an unprecedented regulatory challenge. The Commission proceeded cautiously as detailed in the “Governing a New Market” room in our SRO Gallery.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission commemorated the 90-year anniversary of the Securities Exchange Act and the creation of the SEC. The event included panel discussions featuring former SEC chairs and experts on the SEC’s history.
